Subject : Regarding a request to open secondary school in our locality.

Sir,

This is to bring to your kind attention that our colony Ram Nagar does not have a secondary school in our vicinity. The students of class XI and above have to walk 3-4 km everyday to reach a secondary school which creates a lot of problems. Not only does the commute take a lot of time, but we also have to face the harsh weather conditions everyday. During monsoons, it becomes almost impossible for us to reach the school on time. The rains spoil our uniforms and we have to face severe punishments for the same in the school. Apart from that, every student walking to the school loses his energy by the time he reaches it and thus, remains lost, physically tired and lazy throughout the day. This decreases our concentration levels and we bear heavy losses in terms of our academics. Students coming from middle class and lower class backgrounds are not even able to afford public transport each day and thus often miss school. They are hence deprived of education which is the fundamental right of every child.

I hope my letter will find a space in your esteemed newspaper. Through this letter, I want to reach out to the concerned authorities and request them to open a secondary school in our vicinity. The government has been strongly and repeatedly insisted on facilitating education to every child in India. Congruous to the same, I hope our situation will be taken into consideration and will be acted upon immediately.

Thanking you,
Yours truly

Subject : Rising cases of obesity among young children.

Sir,

This is to bring to your kind attention that there has been an upsurge in the cases of obesity among young children. Obesity has become a common problem among people of all age groups because of the increased intake of processed food and our inactive lifestyle these days. People tarnish their own health by eating what we now call as junk food. The term “Junk Food” in itself talks volumes about the nutrients it holds. Continuous and regular intake of this junk leads to obesity, which brings with it a number of other health disorders. Obese children find it hard to do physical exercises which makes them inert and inactive both physically and mentally. They say that a healthy mind resides in a healthy body but without a healthy body, even the most active and conscious mind can be infected with diseases. Problems like lethargy, high blood pressure, cholesterol, anaemia and many such detrimental

problems regularly affect obese children. Obesity also increases the chances of cardiac disorders among them. We should encourage intake of only organic and healthy food to avoid such conditions. The concerned authorities must try to limit the local food vendors on the street for it is one of the most important areas where children accumulate in large numbers to relish this junk after school. Parents must be taught to limit the intake of their children to fruits and healthy home made food. Every school must necessarily have a nutritionist to take care of the nutrient content of the food the children have everyday. Periodic checks can help them overcome obesity for if this was not initiated today, their future will be in grave danger.

I hope this letter finds a space in your newspaper and is able to reach the concerned authorities.

Thanking you,
Yours truly

Sir,
This is with reference to the honourable Supreme Court’s order that children should (a) _________________________ or lose the right to their parents’ inheritance.
This order is being well accepted as it will make the children, even if unwillingly, take care of their aged parents, as they will (b) _______________________________________.. Parents always want to give the best that they can to their children. Very often, parents deny their own selves all the nice things in life, just to save some money to give their children better education and to bring them up the best way that they can. Subject : Rising Prices

Sir
Through the columns of your esteemed newspaper, I want to express my deep concern regarding the rising prices. This inflation has made the life of a common man very difficult. The worst hit are the fixed income groups like the salaried people, labour class and the pensioners. For them, even the commodities of basic necessities like wheat, pulses, grains, vegetables etc are getting out of reach. Every increase in price disturbs their budget. The government should tackle this problem in the best possible way. The hoarders, black marketers and promoters should be dealt with severely. The public distribution system of rationing should be made more transparent and efficient. Moreover, taxes on basic necessities should be reduced to bring down the contrast between the wholesale and the retail prices. The policy decision makers should always keep the layman in mind while making and executing policies.

Thanking you.

Subject : Awareness towards Cleanliness.

Sir
I feel immense pleasure to state that our school won an award for maintaining cleanliness in and around our school. But it wasn’t a matter of chance. Our school planned thoroughly for the same and took steps accordingly to create awareness of cleanliness among the students as well as other members of the school. We used to have talks in the morning assembly on the need to maintain cleanliness. Poster competition was organized on the dangers of keeping school unclean. Proper implementation of ‘Swachh Bharat Programme’ was done under the trained N.S.S. teachers. To motivate the students, arrangements were made so that the students, teachers and other staff can listen to the Prime Minister’s talk on maintenance of cleanliness. It was not a one man show; rather it was a joint effort. Notice boards on the campus displayed slogAnswer. “Don’t litter”; clean campus-healthy campus. Rallies were taken out to make the residents of the area aware of the need to maintain cleanliness. The whole school worked towards the set goal with dedication.
Through the columns of your esteemed newspaper, I want to make appeal to the brethren of my country that each and every person should be determined to make his/her surroundings clean and beautiful and work for it wholehearted.

Thanking you

Sir,
Through the columns of your reputed newspaper, I wish to draw immediate attention of concerned authorities towards the traffic menace on the road in front of New Agra Public School, Ram Nagar. The road is always congested and traffic jams are common here. The major concern arises due to the movement of heavy vehicles on the road. There are no speed breakers or zebra crossings on the road, which makes it tough for the people, especially school students to cross the road. Thus, this road is accident prone. I, a student of class X, New Agra Public School, on behalf of the students and school authorities, request you to make provision of creating zebra crossing on the road so that crossing the road would not be a life threatening task for the children and other people.
I thank you in anticipation.

Subject : Reforming Beggars

Sir
Through the columns of your esteemed newspaper, I’d like to draw the attention of Local Councillor towards the above mentioned problem. It is a very common sight to see beggars near the religious places, especially near the temples. And we, the God fearing and generous people show pity on them. On this very point, we indirectly do wrong to them. When we give money to them, we indirectly provide them indulgence.
Instead of making them handicapped by giving them, we should help them in such a direction so they should stand on their own, i.e., they should be made capable to earn respectfully. They should be given shelter under the name of some local institution, meant for social work. Then they can be trained as per their interest. The members of our society have already taken steps in this direction.
You are requested to give this letter an appropriate place, that our request should reach to the concerned authority. The Local Councillor and the plan of involving the beggars should be started at the earliest.

Subject : Reality Shows—Loss of Precious Childhood

Sir,
Through the columns of your esteemed daily, I want to express my deep concern regarding the children participating in the so-called ‘Reality Shows’. Even if you have to exploit young children for making money, it seems that it does not matter, as recently there has been a mushrooming of ‘Reality Shows’ featuring children of tender years.
The lure for money tempts the parents to send their children to such shows. The parents should be counselled that their overriding ambition is burdening their children with responsibilities and pressure. Along with neglect of studies, they lose their innocence. The poor children have to undergo a lot of inconvenience and suffering during such shows. The long shooting hours and the dazzle of lights overstrain them.
I strongly feel that the participation of children in such shows should be completely banned. Children should be allowed to lead their normal lives and enjoy their childhood. Kindly publish this letter of mine in your newspaper so that people may become aware of it.

Thanking you
Yours faithfully
Rohan

Sub : Problem of Child Labour

Sir
Through the columns of your esteemed daily, I wish to raise my voice against the worst social evil–child labour. Childhood is the best period of one’s life. But it is unfortunate on the part of children that, despite the ban on child labour, imposed by government, the practice is still prevalent in our society. Data shows that there are 12 million child workers in our country.
The root cause of the problem is lack of awareness and poverty. Poor parents send their children to earn, rather than sending them to school. They seek financial support from them. But this practice has adverse impact on their well being–physically, mentally and emotionally.
I hope, through media, the general public should be made aware of the children’s plight. Poor parents should otherwise be compensated. Rules against child labour should be followed strictly.

Thanking you
Yours sincerely
Aryan.

Subject : Poor Maintenance of Public Parks

Sir
Through the columns of your esteemed newspaper, I would like to draw the attention of the concerned authorities towards the poor maintenance of the public parks.
It saddens me to say this that parks, serve so many purposes in a community-providing playing space to children, socializing space to adults and a healthy environment to people, are in a pathetic state these days.
Heaps of garbage can be seen every where and the boundaries too are broken, leading to the unwanted entry of street dogs and buffaloes.
There is cow dung all around, making the place a breeding ground for insects and they in turn welcome diseases.
The same public park once used to be the pride of our society and a common place for community interaction.Children too are forced to play on the streets due to its unkempt condition.
I request you to give some space to my voice in your esteemed newspaper and help me arouse the attention of the concerned authorities.

Yours truly

Subject : Dengue—Prevention is better than cure !

Sir,
In the past month, an alarming increase in the incidence of dengue cases in the city has been noticed which is a cause for extreme concern and demands immediate attention of the Health Care Department, Municipal Corporation as well as of the general public.
Dengue is a viral infection caused by a group of viruses, represented by DENV, that are transmitted from an infected to a healthy person when an Aedes mosquito bites. This mosquito serves as a carrier of the disease.
High fever is a discernible symptom and may lead to complications due to lowering of the platelet count. Any bleeding during the infection would be difficult to control. Severe cases may require blood transfusions.Since, the carrier mosquito breeds in stagnant waters, close to human habitations, cleanliness of the environment is immensely important and a key precaution for prevention. Vaccination is not an option and any previous infection does not guarantee immunity as there are numerous viruses that cause it. Awareness is immensely important to initiate preventive measures and in this light, I hope my letter will be published for the common good of the people.

Thanking you.
